GPA (Grade Point Average) FAQs
Understanding 4.0 scales, credit hour weighting, Honors/AP boosts, and cumulative transcripts.
Q1How do I calculate my GPA?
Convert each letter grade into grade points (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.0). Multiply each grade point by the course credit hours to get quality points. Sum all quality points and divide by total attempted credit hours.
Q2How do I calculate cumulative GPA?
Multiply your prior cumulative GPA by your prior credit hours to find prior quality points. Add your new semester quality points, then divide by the total combined credit hours.
Q3What is a weighted GPA in high school?
A weighted GPA awards extra grade points for college-prep rigor: +0.5 points for Honors courses and +1.0 points for Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses, creating maximum achievable GPAs of up to 5.0.
